Class Description:

For the next installment of our Art of Touch series, we're focusing on a much requested and long overdue favorite: the back massage! This workshop is perfect for couples looking to deepen their connection and learn effective techniques for relaxation and stress reduction through slow, intentional touch. You will learn about what qualities make a massage relaxing and how to tap into your partner’s nervous system and encourage them to let go of their tension.

In this hands-on and interactive session, you'll learn a full back massage flow you can recreate at home. We will cover endangerment sites and how to work around them safely, as well as energy-saving body mechanics so you can increase the duration of the massage without bringing strain on yourself. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn and try something new!

What to Expect:

  • Positioning: Learn how to set up the proper conditions at home to allow for a comfortable back massage without needing the receiver to turn their head and kink their neck.
  • Massage Flow: Discover a Swedish-inspired back massage sequence, including long warming strokes, targeted work on the shoulders and lower back, and techniques for releasing tension along the spine. We will also be covering how to work around delicate structures safely and avoid injury.
  • Hands-On Practice: Learn proper hand and body mechanics to protect your own body while giving a massage, along with pacing and pressure cues so you can read what your partner's body is telling you. We will also focus on connecting massage strokes and building confidence in delivering a phenomenal massage.

This workshop provides a warm and welcoming space for you and your partner to explore new ways to connect through touch. Join us for an evening of relaxation and discovery in the art of the back massage!

Doors open at 6:45pm, class starts at 7pm SHARP! Please be on time!

What to Bring/Wear:

  • Please bring an airplane travel pillow or face cradle crescent cushion, or bring your own massage table if you have one. Please also bring your own standard size bed pillow.
  • If you have a hard time being on your knees for long periods, please bring a massage table for this class (we have a limited number to borrow if needed, please reach out so we can accommodate)
  • Receivers are best to be topless when being massaged — bring a flat sheet to wrap yourself in if you'd like to preserve your modesty when getting onto the floor/table. You can also wear only a bra to get onto the floor/table, then unhook it in the back once you're lying down.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in easily.
