Description:

Do you feel like you have t-rex arms and struggle to get rope smoothly around your partner while tying? Or have you struggled to get your partner up in a suspension? In this class, we’ll work on strategies for tying around a body when you can’t reach around or above your partner. We’ll also work on strategies for getting someone that outweighs you off the ground and talk about the pros and cons of using different types of gear for support.

Tickets will be sold in tying pairs. Previous experience tying with your partner before the class is highly recommended.

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity and comfort with suspension for both the person tying and the person being tied.
  • Experience tying or being tied in suspension-worthy lower and upper-body ties with multiple load points.
  • Ability to do top and bottom up upline lock-offs on a single point (ring or carabiners)
  • Ability to advocate and enforce personal boundaries in rope and communicate safety information while in rope.
  • Familiarity with signs of nerve damage and ability to conduct safety checks while in rope.

Equipment:

  • One full suspension rope kit with uplines of your choice. Synthetic uplines are recommended but not required.
  • Your single point rigging setup, whether that is a ring or plate, and carabiners. Recommendation to have extra carabiners and / or rappel rings on hand for this particular class.
  • A cutting tool for safety.
  • Notebook and writing tool (recommended)
  • Water, snack, or a blanket (optional)

What to wear:

Come dressed to move in comfy, snug-fitting clothing. Jeans are not recommended and loose, drapey clothes can present a challenge during lessons. Avoid wires, buttons, zippers, or anything else that may feel irritating underneath the rope. Consider bringing layers as the indoor heating system can be inconsistent or loud.

Other info:

  • Tying exercises will be done on the floor, kneeling, and/or standing. Padded mats are provided during class. Chairs and stools can be made available by request.
  • Tying pairs will observe all requests made by instructors during class time, including being asked to sit out exercise(s) when there is a concern about safety.
  • There are two bathrooms and a water cooler on site. Outside food is allowed.
  • Consent is sexy! Ask before touching people AND their rope.
  • Be respectful and kind. We all tie and interact with people a little differently.
  • Contact us if you need accommodation assistance. We will do our best to create a space that facilitates learning for kinksters of all abilities and needs. The entrance can be reached via a ramp or two stairs on either side of the building.

About the instructors:

Drea (she/her, @subtly_mean) is a switch that has been doing rope since 2017. She’s been volunteering as a DM at Subspace since moving to Seattle in 2022 and currently co-hosts the RBU:Munch. She loves teaching folks the foundational aspects of rope that move beyond patterns and guiding new bottoms through understanding their body in rope.

Clay (he/him, @leojulius) is a bottom-leaning switch who discovered his love of rope in 2018. He taught with Full Circle Kink for 6 years, until its shutdown this year. As a tall human with ADHD, Clay is passionate about making rope more accessible through education that's engaging and broadens how we think about rope.

Cost: $90/pair for Premium Members - $120/pair for Non-members. One ticket admits 2 people. The class is limited to 6 tying pairs.
